Originally built in the late 17th century, the monastery came to life through the ambition of Sister Rosa Pandolfi, a descendant of the noble family Pontone di Scala who had taken up residence in Conca dei Marini. Finally it was purchased by a Roman hotelier Mr. Marcucci, who recognised the property’s historic value and the old convent was transformed into a hotel in 1924. Esteemed for its authentic simplicity typical of monastic life, the Hotel Santa Rosa became one of the 39 castle hotels of Italy. The hotel’s motto was “At each window, the sun."

Next to the vibrant Cusco Central Square is the Belmond Hotel, a former monastery and a national monument. This ex monastery offers luxury colonial-style accommodation and it's set around a courtyard in the Cusco´s historical centre just 2 blocks from Plaza Armas Square. Originally built in 1592, Belmond Hotel Monasterio sits on the site of Inca Amaru Qhala’s palace. Six years later, the Spanish took it over and founded the Seminary of San Antonio Abad. However, an earthquake seriously damaged the building in 1650 and upon restoration the beautiful Chapel was added. In 1965, the building was remodelled as a hotel and right now it is a national historic landmark, protected by Peru’s National Institute of Culture.

Located on the private island of San Clemente, San Clemente Palace Kempinski Venice is a luxurious historic hotel. The island, and later on the hotel itself, got its name from the Pope Clement I. On the island, a church was ordered to be built in the 12th century, which was renovated in the 14th century and accommodated monks throughout the centuries. In the early 19th century, all the Camaldolese monks were forced to leave the church and the island when Napoleon Bonaparte suppressed the Italian religious orders and the monastery was abandoned. It was first renovated and opened as a hotel in 2003, while the Kempinski group purchased and re-opened it as the luxurious hotel it is today in 2016.
