Former Castle Hotels in Lower Austria

The castle was built in the 12th century by the Knights of Malta and it boasts a moat and a blend of Renaissance and Baroque elements. The castle has suffered through many wars throughout the centuries, having been destroyed and rebuilt countless times. This castle has been owned by the Sovereign Order of Malta since 1146. It stands perfectly on the hills of Weinviertel, surrounded by vineyards and bike paths that lead to neighbouring towns.

This castle is a hotel and a museum. It is the only Masonic Museum in Austria, outlining the history of the brotherhood throughout the 17th to the 18th century. The castle was initially built in the 16th century and rebuilt 200 hundred years later.

Although written records of a castle by the name of Ehrnegg date back to the 10th century, the castle acquired its current structure in the 16th century. In the 14th century, the chapel of St. Bartholomew was also built in the castle's premises. Throughout its one millennium lifespan, it is constantly renovated to keep up with the pace of modernity. Today it is a perfect destination to tie the knot. Guests can host events by renting the whole castle for themselves.

The property was raised in the 13th century when Krumbach was still a small town. The castle was largely destroyed in 1246 and 1260 in the Hungarian invasion. Later, it remained for over 200 years in the possession of Puchheim. Popular to castles of that time, it has its own castle chapel for worship.
