Monastery
This hotel is housed in a former monastery which was built during the 14th century by King Alfonso XI to celebrate the Virgin of Guadeloupe. The Hieronymites were in charge of keeping the monastery in order until the 18th century. This monastery is also where Queen Isabel and King Ferdinand gave official permission to Columbus to embark on his quest for the Indies. By the 19th century, the monastery was abandoned and looted by the French during the war, until the Franciscans took control of it in the 20th century.
