Historic HotelThis hotel has been Mayfair Village's pride since early 19th century. It started as an offshoot of Grillion's hotel containing 2 houses owned by the Duke of Westminster. It was renovated into its own and formally opened in 1897 as The Coburg. It was renamed during the World War I to The Connaught to commemorate Queen Victoria's son, Prince Arthur, Duke of Connaught and Strathearn. In 1940, French President General Charles de Gaulle was a resident at the hotel. In 1970s, Ralpha Lauren once visited the hotel and was enamored by the woodwork on the staircase. He built a replica and installed it in his store in New York. Royalties frequented the hotel, in late 20th century, Queen Elizabeth and Prince Charles were visitors.
