Haunted Hotels in Tralee

Ballyseede Castle was built by the Fitzgerald family in the 16th century. Gerald Fitzgerald, the owner, was beheaded on this castle and rumour has it that his spirit still wanders around its premises, as if to ensure that everything works fine. Another famous ghost is that of Hilda, who appears only on 24 March of every year. No one really knows her story and how she came to haunt Ballyseede, but her eerie presence was enough to scare every single guest away one night in 1998.

The Lake Hotel was built in 1820 and is said to be haunted by Donal McCarthy Mor, the founder of Muckross Abbey which is near the hotel. McCarthy was a ferocious and heartless warrior and his ghost has been sighted in the hotel's bar, overlooking Lough Leane. Another ghost that has been reported wandering around the hotel is that of a young girl from the 19th century, although her story and reasons for haunting the premises still remain unknown.
