Very Good

Location

Sopwell House Hotel is situated close to the beautiful town centre of St Albans, making it easily reachable for its guests. Everything, ranging from restaurants to the spa, is located within close proximity to the rooms. Some guests found the location to be inspiring and beautiful, surrounded by lovely settings and beautiful surroundings. However, a few guests remarked that the approach to the hotel is via a narrow road and a limited access for pedestrians. Despite these minor issues, many guests found the location to be good and convenient, especially if one needs to visit North London or Southampton. Guests also enjoyed the additional sports channels available in their rooms and one guest recommended a Turkish restaurant nearby, called Baute. Some guests did mention that their rooms were quite far away from the main part of the hotel. Nonetheless, guests greatly appreciated the beautiful grounds, lovely rooms and the professional approach of the hotel staff, making Sopwell House Hotel an excellent choice for a relaxing getaway away from the bustle of everyday life.

The spa therapists were particularly accommodating and we must mention George, a staff member who stood out for being funny, kind and helpful. The hotel's outstanding staff is a testament to the quality of management, where even the breakfast staff are bubbly and helpful. Some guests had issues with delayed pre-booked taxis, rushing to leave or inappropriate comments; however, such isolated events never overshadowed the excellent customer service rendered by the staff. From arranging birthday messages in rooms to catering to intolerances, the hospitality from every single staff member was exceptional. The staff make the hotel and they made our stay amazing!

The spa is clean and pleasant with lovely amenities and beautiful grounds. Guests can enjoy stunning and amazing spa areas with deep relaxation rooms, outdoor jacuzzis and young and friendly staff. The spa refurb is to a very high standard and there is access to benefits with wrist bands, although some guests felt locked in for too long. The spa is generally relaxing and enjoyable and most guests appreciate the treatments and facilities, although some felt that the spa could have been warmer and some also found it basic or expensive. There are also some concerns about the availability and seating of loungers. However, the spa is still described as one of the best with excellent club spa facilities at Cotton Mill and amazing or complementary treatments for guests. Overall, Sopwell House Hotel is a beautiful spa hotel that provides a perfect break for deep relaxation and enjoyment.
