During the Renaissance, the fortress was reconstructed and its walls were refortified. The King of France and his descendants were frequent guests. In the 17th century, Marquis Nicolas Gouffier de Crèvecoeur built the medieval courtyard. In 1938, the castle was occupied by Germans to be used as a military school.
