Former Castle Hotels in Mautern in Steiermark

Over the centuries, the castle has been home to many families and workers. The first documentation of the property goes as far back as 1443. It was originally built as a moated castle but the soil in the moat could not contain the water causing it to collapse. In 1908, Prince Friedrich of Liechtenstein sold the entire estate to the Styrian steelworks in Wasendorf. Now it stands as a Renaissance castle with a preserved unfinished moat.

This baroque-style castle offers a perfect destination for romantic getaways. It is perfectly placed at the Gesäuse National Reserve, high on the mountains above the village of Admont, a town known for the biggest monastery library. Guests who desire to remain active during their stay can explore the hiking trails around the mountains. The castle also has a private courtyard you can stroll around in, a small castle chapel and a grand Knight's hall to host events in style.
