Former Castle Hotels in Koflach

Constructed around the 12th century, the fortress was purposefully built on the slopes for optimal defensibility and great vantage point of the hills. It was able to repel attacks from the Turks. Nowadays, the outside walls are teeming with vineyards and fine wine. From spring to autumn, you can immerse yourself in the Fortress Museum with armors, antiques and age-old art. The fortress is also a great venue for celebrations and seminars.

Over the centuries, the castle has been home to many families and workers. The first documentation of the property goes as far back as 1443. It was originally built as a moated castle but the soil in the moat could not contain the water causing it to collapse. In 1908, Prince Friedrich of Liechtenstein sold the entire estate to the Styrian steelworks in Wasendorf. Now it stands as a Renaissance castle with a preserved unfinished moat.
