Breakfast

High Tor Hotel offers a breakfast experience that has garnered mixed reviews from guests. The continental breakfast, which is included with the room, has received varied feedback. Some guests found it to be great, plentiful and an ample start for a long day with a decent choice that includes cereals, toast, yogurts and occasionally croissants. However, many noted that it could be quite basic, lacking variety, often described as minimal or meager with some reviews mentioning that it included only toast, cereal and basic items like cheap croissants and packaged jams. In contrast, the cooked breakfast options, which are available for an additional fee, are generally well-received. Guests often praised the cooked breakfast for its quality and taste, describing it as excellent, delicious and of high quality. However, there were also complaints about the price with many finding it expensive and noting that the cost should have been made clearer during booking. Some guests were disappointed by the lack of traditional continental items such as meats and cheeses and others mentioned that the breakfast room could be small or service a bit confused. Despite these issues, many appreciated the polite and helpful breakfast staff and enjoyed the freshly cooked hot dishes when opting for the paid cooked breakfast selection. Overall, while the included continental breakfast might be sufficient for some, those looking for a more substantial meal are advised to consider the hotel's cooked breakfast options, albeit at an extra cost.

Dinner

The dinner experience at High Tor Hotel receives varied but generally positive feedback from guests. Reviewers often highlight the quality of the food, describing evening meals as lovely, fabulous and of excellent quality and value. Popular dishes such as steak, curry, fish and chips and roasted chicken are frequently praised for their taste and presentation. Some guests appreciated the plentiful portions and the friendly, helpful service in the restaurant. The on-site restaurant, Artist Corner and the bar are well-received for their comfortable and relaxed atmosphere. Many guests enjoyed dining there both for dinner and breakfast, noting that the food was consistently tasty and freshly prepared. Dishes such as eggs Benedict and the club sandwich received specific mentions for their quality. However, there are a few areas noted for improvement. Some guests found the dinner menu to be limited and expressed a desire for more variety, especially for vegetarians. A few reviews mentioned the food being overpriced and pointed out specific issues such as heavy use of salt, inconsistent meal quality and occasional problems with service like delayed orders or missing items. Rooms

Many guests have praised the spaciousness and modern refurbishment of several rooms, describing them as clean, well-equipped and offering nice views. The presence of amenities such as a good-sized TV and ample supplies for tea, coffee and hot chocolate is appreciated. The hotel also boasts well-maintained bathroom facilities in most rooms with some characterized as stunning or spacious. However, not all rooms received positive feedback. Some were described as too small for comfort, particularly attic rooms with slanted roofs and limited space. Specific issues such as faulty velux windows, tiny heaters and insufficient heating, making rooms cold on arrival, were noted. Other less favorable comments included outdated decor, rooms lacking wardrobes and occasional maintenance issues like flaking paint, dirty windows and subpar cleanliness in certain areas. Overall, while the High Tor Hotel offers comfortable and well-presented rooms with commendable cleanliness and modern touches, guests may encounter variability in room sizes and conditions. Attic rooms, in particular, might fall short of expectations due to their compact nature. Nonetheless, the positive attributes such as beautiful views, spacious bathrooms and good room amenities make it a noteworthy choice for many travelers.

Specific issues like waterproof mattress protectors causing discomfort and springs being felt through the mattress are noted. Additionally, some guests mention that the beds were too small or narrow and others found the pillows flat and uncomfortable. While some guests found the beds to be super firm and supportive, others felt they were too soft, leading to backaches. Despite these criticisms, the consensus about bed cleanliness remains positive with several reviews complimenting the clean bedding and comfortable linens. Overall, while High Tor Hotel appears to provide a largely comfortable sleeping experience for many guests, there are notable criticisms that suggest the quality and comfort of the beds can be inconsistent.
