Located in a quiet area with excellent parking facilities, the hotel is perfect for travelers interested in exploring the city with a bus stop right outside and a well-maintained cycle path leading directly to Bamberg.
Guests have varied opinions on the breakfast, which is generally described as sufficient and satisfactory for its price point, featuring typical German selections that are simple but delicious. While appreciated by late risers and featuring a convenient check-out time, some guests note a lack of diversity and freshness at times.
The dining experience, particularly the traditional Franconian cuisine, receives high praise. The hotel's own restaurant, Frankenstube and the village brewery, known for its good beer and plentiful traditional food, are especially highlighted. Guests also enjoy the restaurant Die Grotte, known for its popular dishes and overall satisfying dining options.
The rooms offer a mixed experience. They are described positively for being clean, comfy and cozy with some offering nice views and large apartments. However, many reviews emphasize that the rooms are outdated and in need of renovation with reports of old furnishings, dusty environments and occasional cleanliness issues, including mold and unpleasant odors.
Cleanliness is a significant area of concern with numerous reports of cobwebs, dust, dirty carpets and even instances of mold and bed bugs. This has detracted from many guests' experiences, highlighting the need for improved housekeeping and maintenance.
Staff receive mixed reviews; many guests appreciate the friendly and helpful demeanor of the staff, who are accommodating and attentive. However, there are notable instances of unfriendly and uncooperative behavior, particularly from some staff members and the owner, impacting the overall service experience.
The parking facilities are highly praised for their convenience with ample free parking spaces located directly in front of the rooms and the hotel itself, making it easy for guests traveling by car.
Feedback about the beds is mixed; many find them comfortable with cozy bedding, while others note issues such as worn-out, damp or smelly linens and uncomfortable mattresses, indicating inconsistencies in bedding quality.
In summary, Blaue Grotte & Frankenhotel offers a blend of positive aspects, particularly its location and dining options, but also faces notable challenges related to room maintenance, cleanliness and service consistency.
