Historic Country House

Building work of this grand castle began in 1511 – it was intended to be home for the Duke of Buckingham. It was almost completed by 1521, when the Duke’s cousin, Henry VIII, accused him of treason, he killed him and confiscated his castle. Fourteen years later, along with Anne Boleyn, Henry stayed at Thornbury Castle to celebrate their honeymoon.
