Very Good

Location

Located conveniently close to the M62 and in a grand, beautiful area, Cave Castle Hotel boasts a great location that guests love. Surrounded by lovely, picturesque grounds (including a golf course) and in a pleasant village with good pubs and restaurants only a short walk away, it's a great base for golfing or exploring the area on foot. Many guests also enjoyed walking around the beautiful area. It's also a fantastic location for a wedding with positive comments regarding the location, exterior and facilities. In addition, guests appreciated the comfort and quietness of their rooms, as well as the location for their business trips. Overall, the hotel's location impresses guests with its beauty and convenient surroundings.

Breakfast

Guests have raved about the breakfast at Cave Castle Hotel with many describing it as exceptional and even the best breakfast they have ever had at a hotel. The breakfast includes a super display of fresh fruit, a good continental selection and hot options for those who prefer a heartier breakfast. The food quality has been praised with guests commending the homemade muesli, toasted pecans, dried fruit and quality produce used. The breakfast staff are attentive and sociable, although a few guests noted that the breakfast could have been hotter. Vegetarian options such as veggie sausages are also available. The pool evening meal is also a great option for those looking for a unique dining experience. Although some guests have noted a limited dinner menu that wasn't as good quality as past visits, the majority of guests were pleased with the good fresh food and large portion sizes. In fact, some even declared the food to be amazing! However, guests who dined in the restaurant during colder weather noted that the space was cold and the food offering was average. Despite this, for many guests, the dinner service was excellent and the food made their stay truly memorable.

Rooms

The rooms at Cave Castle Hotel offer a mixed experience. Some guests found their rooms to be spacious, clean and comfortable with lovely views of the lawn and lake. The en-suites were newish, some rooms were recently renovated and others had original features and nice old furniture. Some of the rooms were in the main building and were considered good, while others were in need of updating and looked a little tired or shabby. There were reports of mould around the window frames, water/condensation leaking, broken tiles and grubby carpets with stains. Some guests had issues with cleanliness, such as holes in the bedding, unclean carpets and dusty areas. Some rooms were above function rooms, which could be noisy and others were internal with no external windows. However, overall, guests enjoyed the beautiful building with its ornate ceilings and fireplaces, full of character and a lovely friendly feeling. Rooms were cleaned every day, beds were comfortable and some were triple rooms. The hotel was in a lovely location but some rooms had poor room location or a non-existent view. The hotel had heating issues in some rooms, which made them very hot or cold. Some guests had to wait for breakfast due to a full restaurant without a booking system. Nonetheless, the hotel offered excellent value for money and whilst furnishings could sometimes be distressed and shabby, the hotel had a traditional feel and nice old-fashioned furniture.

Beds

The Cave Castle Hotel provides comfortable and spacious rooms for its guests. While some guests found the mattresses soft and lumpy, others praised the super comfy beds. However, some guests found the pillows a bit flat or the beds too small or uncomfortable. A few guests even noticed holes in the bedding or dog hairs on the side of the beds. Overall, guests enjoyed the large and beautiful building and the lovely location of the hotel.

Cleanliness

Some even found cobwebs and dust in their rooms, stained sheets and dog hairs on the side of the beds. The carpet was also mentioned as being dirty and stained. However, despite these issues, some guests still found the hotel stunning with spacious and comfortable rooms that were well proportioned and worked well. Some also commented on the excellent staff, food and overall cleanliness throughout the hotel. The main downside was the poor WiFi connection.

The hotel staff, from reception to bar and restaurant, received high praise from most guests with particular mentions for Beth, Carol, Elly and Steve. The staff at breakfast were occasionally mentioned to have a different attitude, but the staff in the restaurant and bar were always great. Some guests did mention that some of the younger or inexperienced staff could do with more training in customer service. However, in general, the staff were attentive, polite and happy to help guests with any requests and the hotel's location and facilities coupled with the excellent service made for a wonderful stay.

The spa and leisure facilities were well-run and relaxing and many guests enjoyed the complimentary use of the spa and gym. The spa area was beautiful and the facilities were fantastic, making it a huge bonus for anyone staying at the hotel. Guests noted that the price for inclusion of the spa and breakfast was good and some even mentioned that there was nothing else they would change about their spa experience - it was perfect! Overall, guests highly recommend the spa facilities at the Cave Castle Hotel.

The corridors of the hotel are a bit dowdy and the rooms are slightly outdated. Despite this, the rooms themselves are high quality and clean. The evening meals are very nice but also expensive. Some guests felt that the hotel was budget in delivery and not worth the price. Others commented that the lack of attention to hygiene and servicing spoiled the premises. Overall, the hotel is adequate and passable, but some guests felt that they would have rather stayed under canvas.
