Former Castle Hotel
Initially built in 1699, the original castle's ruins can still be seen at the Wishing Well, near Cromwell's Bridge. Some historical accounts suggest that the castle belonged to the O'Reilly family until it was confiscated under Cromwell's orders in the 17th century. The castle was completely destroyed during the Cromwellian War. In 1813, Colonel James Pratt bought Cormy Castle and its 400 acres of land from Augustus Foster. He then moved "Cabra House" from the Wishing Well to the castle itself. In 1820, he renamed Cormy Castle to Cabra Castle. It was first turned into a hotel in 1964, featuring high ceilings, lavish staircases and historic hallways.

The castle is surrounded by well-maintained grounds that offer plenty of opportunities for beautiful walks with a nearby forest and beautiful countryside. The location offers amazing views and beautiful surroundings that make this hotel a fabulous choice for guests seeking a unique experience. Breakfast
If you're a foodie looking for a satisfying breakfast, Cabra Castle won't disappoint you. The hotel prides itself on locally sourced ingredients, providing delicious and tasty options for breakfast. There's plenty to choose from and the Irish breakfast is fantastic! The excellent selection of hot food and buffet items, along with quick and friendly staff, adds to the charm. Breakfast can be enjoyed while sitting in beautiful surroundings. Although some guests complained of cold food, undercooked toast and bland scrambled eggs, the staff in the restaurant is nice and helpful. The breakfast queue can be long but it's worth the wait as the food is very good. Adding extra condiments such as coffee, tea and milk in the cottage rooms will definitely improve the breakfast experience. Vegans may find limited options for breakfast. The variety of the buffet could be improved as some guests have pointed out. Overall, breakfast at Cabra Castle is fantastic and the food and staff are excellent. It's good value for money despite the steep price of breakfast. The breakfast and dinner were beautiful and the wedding meal was excellent.

The restaurant was found to be fantastic by some, while others preferred the bar food which they said was excellent. Some guests with dietary restrictions stated that there were few coeliac-friendly options available. The staff were noted for being accommodating, nice, friendly and quick to attend to diners. Cleanliness is also a top priority with numerous reviewers commending the staff for keeping their rooms spotlessly clean. And those views! Some rooms have absolutely breathtaking views of the surrounding countryside.

However, not all rooms are created equal. Some guests found the room size to be lacking, while others felt that the furnishings were a bit worn. Some felt that the Disney-inspired decor felt a bit too reproduced. Additionally, some rooms were too far from the bars or the main hotel, which could be inconvenient for some guests.

But for the most part, guests were very happy with their accommodations. The lodge rooms in particular were praised for being quiet and peaceful with some even having balconies with great views. And despite a few minor quibbles, everyone agreed that Cabra Castle Hotel is a beautiful place to stay.

Despite these minor quibbles, most guests found the hotel to be a delightful experience with delicious food, cozy blankets and rugs and stunning views from courtyard rooms. The only downside for some was that the small windows in some rooms made it difficult to cool things down on warm nights. Overall, if you're looking for a castle stay with comfy beds and fantastic service, then Cabra Castle Hotel is definitely worth considering!
