Location
If you're searching for a peaceful retreat away from the city, look no further than Champneys Henlow. The hotel boasts a superb location, tucked away from the hustle and bustle of city life, yet still only a five-minute walk from the village if you need to stock up on supplies. Guests loved the beautiful surroundings with the proximity to RAF Henlow and easy access to a nearby pub being convenient bonuses. The grounds and gardens were described as "great," and the main house and exterior of the property were noted for their beauty. Even the car park was a pleasant spot to sit outside and soak up the stunning surroundings. Whether you're in need of a tranquil getaway or a spa weekend in the countryside, the nice location and relaxing atmosphere of Champneys Henlow are sure to impress.

Breakfast
Champneys Henlow offers a delightful spa experience with trained professionals providing excellent treatments such as the Citrus Brush and hydrological water treatment to relieve body pains. Guests raved about Andreas, who gave amazing service. However, breakfast was hit or miss depending on who you ask. While some praised the great selection, others found the variety lacking with only cold options and no mention of pre-booking dinner. Some guests were unhappy with the quality of the food with cheese piled high on a "balanced" breakfast and poached eggs cooked with too much vinegar. Some had to send their whole breakfast back due to poor quality and there was a wide range of options available at extra costs. The lack of information about what was included in the original booking was also mentioned by some guests.

Dinner
Champneys Henlow offers guests a range of dining options, but according to guest reviews, some may not be worth the extra cost. While some guests enjoyed the breakfast and dinner options, others complained about the limited menu choices and poor quality of food. One guest noted that the menu catered more towards vegetarians/vegans, leaving meat eaters disappointed with the need for a supplement fee. Additionally, the drink selection was limited with no normal fizzy drinks or juices available. Some guests also noted that the food was delivered lukewarm or microwaved when ordered through room service. Overall, guests may want to explore dining options outside of the hotel or opt for the basic lunch option instead.

Rooms
Champneys Henlow offers a range of rooms for guests to choose from, but unfortunately, the quality of the rooms varied quite a bit. Some guests found the rooms to be clean and adequate, while others felt that they were dated and in need of updating. Walls were thin, which led to some guests experiencing disturbed sleep due to noise from neighboring rooms. Some rooms were very hot with no air conditioning, which made sleeping uncomfortable. One guest even reported that the double bed they requested was actually two single beds pushed together with a mattress topper, which resulted in an uncomfortable sleeping arrangement. In some instances, there were issues with the furniture, TV and bathroom. Overall, room quality seemed to be a recurring issue for guests with some feeling disappointed by the dated decor and lack of attention to detail.

Cleanliness
Champneys Henlow is a spectacular hotel surrounded by magnificent grounds that are well-kept, providing a serene getaway for those looking to relax. While some parts of the hotel show signs of wear and tear, the friendly reception team greets all guests with a delightful aroma as they check in. The rooms are clean and comfortable, however, there were reports of a leaking radiator and stains on the carpet. Guests also reported cobwebs on the bedroom ceiling. Some issues with cleanliness include hairs in the bath, sinks with bacteria growing on them and general reports of unclean surroundings. The electric fencing placed around the grass areas was not communicated to guests and this caused disturbance for some visitors. Nonetheless, the treatment staff were knowledgeable and friendly and the spa facilities were immaculately clean. The highlight of the hotel's facilities was the large, stunning pool. Overall, Champneys Henlow is a beautiful hotel that provides guests with a serene, yet luxurious experience with beautiful surroundings and some areas of improvement in regards to cleanliness.

Staff
Guests at Champneys Henlow can expect a variety of experiences with the staff. While some rave about the hospitable, friendly and professional nature of all the staff, from room service to spa treatments, others complain of staff attitudes and poor service. The reception staff, in particular, are amazing according to some guests. Breakfast is especially pleasant with mention of a lovely lady who serves guests with a smile. However, not every service is up to par with long wait times for room service and limited interactions with staff due to Covid-19 restrictions. Some guests feel the hotel is understaffed and poorly trained, while others report feeling invisible to staff. There were some complaints about club members appearing standoffish and rude, while others found the team to be super helpful. Overall, there seem to be mixed reviews when it comes to staff at Champneys Henlow.

Spa
Champneys Henlow is a picturesque spa hotel that is perfect for those in need of a spa break. The spa facilities were great with an indoor pool, whirlpool, sauna and steam room. Although, the steam room was out of use during our stay. The hydrological water treatment and Citrus Brush treatment were very effective, relieving our aches and pains. However, after the spa closed, we couldn't find anything to use. The facilities were clean and well-maintained, but there were not enough of them. The lack of a thalassotherapy pool was noticeable and the fact that men couldn't access the laconium and steam room in the ladies changing room was inconvenient. Champneys needs a central office to handle matters like this. We enjoyed all the treatments we received and the staff was very pleasant, helpful and knowledgeable. Overall, the spa was great, but there are other spas with better/more facilities. The gardens were beautiful and relaxing, providing a peaceful atmosphere. However, we were disappointed that the hydrotherapy pool advertised on the website does not actually exist. The double bed we requested and confirmed was twins put together with a mattress topper on top, which wasn't very comfortable. We were also asked to pay an additional expense to use the facilities before or after check-in, which was frustrating.

Pool
Champneys Henlow boasts an indoor pool that's frequented by many guests. However, the pool booking process has been described as hopeless by some guests and it seems that some missed out on using the swimming pool by 18:00. This is particularly frustrating for those who chose the hotel based on the pool's availability. Despite this, those who managed to use it described the pool as beautiful and very good. There's also a whirlpool attached to the swimming pool, which is a nice touch. Unfortunately, neither the pool nor the whirlpool is heated to hydrotherapy pool temperatures, leaving some guests disappointed. On a positive note, there's a sauna by the pool, which may be of interest to some. Overall, the pool at Champneys Henlow is a highlight for those who manage to book it but frustrating for others.
