The Mercure Exeter Southgate Hotel is a convenient, modern and comfortable place to stay with exceptional cleanliness being a highlight in many of the guest reviews. However, there were some instances of dusty areas, dirty glasses left in the hallway and a few tired-looking rooms, including threadbare carpets and peeling paint. Fortunately, most guests reported very clean and comfortable rooms with powerful showers, nice towels and spotless changing rooms. The hotel staff were generally friendly and helpful, although there were a few isolated incidents of grumpiness at the front desk.
