This 12th-century former monastery has a long history full of deaths and hauntings. Abbot Geoffrey is said to have been murdered here in 1345 and his ghost, that of a hooded monk, has frequently been sighted wandering around the premises. If you hear footsteps on the cobblestone path near the stables, that is the ghost of Matilda, a gypsy girl who became pregnant by the former master of the house, who refused to take responsibility for his actions. The baby was born dead and Matilda's fury was so immense that she placed a curse on the house and her spirit still wanders around it, unable to find peace.

Location

Coombe Abbey Hotel boasts a stunning location that guests describe as beautiful, impressive and picturesque. The hotel's grounds and surrounding park are amazing with plenty of space to explore and walk around. Guests appreciate the building's history and character, which adds an atmospheric and lovely ambience to their stay. The hotel's decor is also lovely, matching the grand and impressive setting. However, the car park's distance from the reception can be challenging during bad weather and some guests found their distance rooms from the main building to be inconvenient. But overall, the location of the Coombe Abbey Hotel is fantastic with plenty to see and do nearby, making it a perfect place for a peaceful and relaxing getaway.
