Others found the atmosphere of the restaurant to be cold and lacking in ambiance. Some guests were frustrated to find that there were no chefs on site during their stay or that the Steakhouse was closed. Several guests felt that the food was overpriced for its quality with some meals being inedible. The Macdonald Spey Valley Resort offers a range of spacious and well-equipped apartments, chalets and lodges, many with great views of Cairngorm. Guests appreciate the good size of the rooms, comfortable beds and linen and the availability of multiple bathrooms. While some accommodations may be a bit dated, most are clean and comfortable. Many guests also enjoy the location in beautiful grounds near the river and the variety of amenities such as saunas, wood stoves and patios. Overall, the accommodation is suitable for families or couples and provides an excellent base for exploring the area.

Beds
The Macdonald Spey Valley Resort features a range of comfortable and warm beds with quality furniture and bedding. Guests found the mattresses and pillows to be very comfortable, but some did mention uncomfortable sofa beds and old bed linen left from the previous occupants. The size of the beds was not always clear, but for most it was not a real problem. The hotel staff promptly fixed any issues, including broken sofa beds and radiators. However, some guests did find hair on the protective covers of fold-out beds and some felt that the beds were too firm for their taste. Overall, the bed comfort and cleanliness varied depending on the accommodation type, but most guests enjoyed a good night's sleep.

Pool
Guests had mixed experiences with the pool at Macdonald Spey Valley Resort. Some guests found the pool area to be dirty and the water too cold or murky. Others enjoyed using the pool, sauna and steam room. However, there were reports of broken tiles and uneven surfaces. Some guests were disappointed that the pool was closed during their stay, but the hotel organized access to a sister hotel's pool in the town. Guests also had to book a slot to use the pool, which some found inconvenient. Families with children appreciated the water slide and wave pool, but some felt that they needed more time to swim. Despite a few issues, many guests enjoyed having access to the pool facilities during their stay.

For those with dogs, the resort is dog-friendly and there are loads of spaces for kids to run and play safely. However, some guests commented that the chalets need refurbishing with issues such as mould on the ceiling and scratches on panel doors.

Overall, the resort is good value for money, though guests were disappointed by the lack of basic supplies provided in their chalets, such as toilet rolls and washing up liquid.
